Are booster cables jumper cables?
Booster cables and jumper cables are the same product here. Polar Wire uses both names for the same sets: a pair of insulated copper conductors with a clamp, a connector or a harness at each end, sized to carry starting current from one battery to another.
What is a jumper harness?
A harness is the half of the system that stays on the vehicle. It bolts to the battery with plated copper lugs and ends in a power connector behind the bumper or inside the engine bay, so a battery that is hard to reach is reached once. The clamp cable then plugs into it. Polar Wire builds harness sets in 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1/0 AWG, and the harness leg is 1 ft on 8 AWG, 2 ft on 6 AWG and 4 ft on 4, 2 and 1/0 AWG.
How long are standard jumper cables?
Length is set by gauge, and the two configurations do not offer the same ladder. Clamp to clamp: 8 ft in 8 AWG, 12 ft in 6 AWG, 16, 20 and 25 ft in 4 and 2 AWG, and 20, 25 and 30 ft in 1/0. With a harness: 6 ft in 8 AWG, 10 ft in 6 AWG, 16, 20 and 25 ft in 4 AWG, the same three plus 30 ft in 2 AWG, and 25 and 30 ft in 1/0. Every set is listed at store.polarwire.com/jumper-cables.
Can the clamps be replaced?
Yes. The clamps are bolted and replaceable. Solid copper. Clamp ratings run 100 A on 8 and 6 AWG, 400 A on 4 and 2 AWG, and a 1000 A dual live jaw clamp on 1/0.
