Approvals and rating
What this wire is evaluated to, and what gets printed along the jacket.
UL Recognized AWM Style 1698
Recognized component wire under UL file E196955. The style number identifies the exact construction and rating that was evaluated.
CSA 234608
Certified for Canada and printed on the jacket as TEW 105°C 600V FT1.
RoHS compliant
Free of the substances RoHS restricts, so it can be specified into equipment that has to declare its materials.

Frequently asked questions
If you need something that is not here, ask us: 8am to 5pm AKST, Monday to Friday.
What is Arctic Ultraflex Blue?
Arctic Ultraflex Blue is ultraflex wire: a flexible single conductor, Class K copper, 18 AWG to 500 MCM. Rated -55°C to 105°C (−67°F to 221°F), 600 V, UL Recognized as AWM 1698, file E196955. Polar Wire manufactures it.
Is this flexible single conductor wire?
Yes. Arctic Ultraflex Blue is flexible single conductor wire. Class K copper, one conductor per jacket, 18 AWG to 500 MCM.
What is 4/0 copper wire on this page?
4/0, also written 4/0 AWG and spoken four aught, is a stocked size of Arctic Ultraflex Blue. The row is 2109/30 stranding, ampacity 440 A at 30°C (86°F) and 411 A at 40°C (104°F), stocked colors Black, Red, Blue. Jump to 4/0 AWG.
How much does Arctic Ultraflex Blue cost?
Typical cut-to-length price on the online store is $1.25 to $33 per foot, depending on gauge. 8 AWG sits at the low end of the cut SKUs. 500 MCM sits at the high end. 100 ft rolls are also on the online store. Those cost more as a put-up, not as a different per-foot product. See the store for today's price: Arctic Ultraflex Blue wire.
What is AWM and what does it mean?
AWM stands for Appliance Wiring Material, a UL program. Printing AWM on the jacket means the wire was evaluated to a specific style for internal wiring, and that it met the safety and performance requirements of that style. AWM covers thousands of styles and applications. Arctic Ultraflex Blue is UL Recognized as AWM Style 1698, file E196955.
What is "100% Copper Class K Stranding" and why do you use it in your wire?
100% copper, not copper-clad. Class K uses 30 AWG strands bunched into each size. Strand counts by size are in the Class K stranding comparison chart.
Is Arctic Ultraflex Blue® tin-plated?
18 AWG to 10 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue is stocked tin-plated for corrosion resistance. Larger sizes are stocked bare. Tin-plated constructions in those larger sizes may be available as a special order. Minimums apply. Private label wire manufacturing.
Can Arctic Ultraflex Blue® be used in marine applications?
Yes. Many marine customers specify Arctic Ultraflex Blue for cold-weather flexibility and a construction that is easy to pull and terminate. It is arctic-grade and UL Recognized as AWM for general internal equipment wiring. For inspected vessels and marine-code applications, use boat-cable-rated Multi-Listed Flexible Wire. For multiconductor marine runs, Premium Boat Cable is available in round and flat.
Why is Arctic Ultraflex Blue®/Arctic Superflex Blue® more expensive than other wire?
Arctic Ultraflex Blue and Arctic Superflex Blue are built as premium products.
TPE insulation. A thermoplastic elastomer blend that stays flexible in cold weather and holds up to oil, abrasion and sunlight.
Class K stranding. Conductors are 100% copper in a 30 AWG Class K construction. 4/0 AWG has over 2000 strands.
