SAE J1283 is the keyed two-pin jump start plug on heavy equipment. Polar Wire plugs are rated 500 A continuous and 2000 A intermittent for 30 seconds. The shape stops a reverse-polarity connection. The same receptacle is on the machine, so a jump is a plug, not clamps on a buried battery.
Will an SAE J1283 plug fit Caterpillar equipment?
Yes, when the machine has an SAE J1283 receptacle. That receptacle is the Cat, Komatsu, and CASE jump-start socket. Polar Wire J1283 plugs mate with it. Check the receptacle on the machine before you order. SAE J1283 is a plug standard, not a statement that Caterpillar buys from Polar Wire.
What is the difference between jump start cables and jumper cables?
The end fitting. Jumper cables clamp onto a battery post. Jump start cables end in an SAE J1283 plug that mates with a receptacle on the machine. Polar Wire jump start cables are Arctic Superflex Blue, 4 AWG to 1/0.
Plug to plug or plug to clamp?
Plug to plug when both machines have a J1283 receptacle. Plug to clamp when one end is a receptacle and the other is a battery you can reach with clamps. Cables run 4 AWG to 1/0.
